Keeping it real
I started writing about living with uncertainty. Have you heard of VUCA? An anagram created by the American military in the 1990s and stands for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous.
AKA the world in 2025.
I was going to write a post on that, but pretty soon, I realised I was intellectualising, when what I actually want to say is: I'm struggling to balance caring about global injustice with the immediate demands of daily life - work, parenting, the people right in front of me who need care. I don't have wise words this week.
How are you managing the tension between wanting to stay engaged with what's happening in the world and having limited bandwidth for it all? How do you decide where to put your energy when everything feels urgent? What are you doing that feels meaningful beyond reposting on social media?
I'm genuinely curious how others are navigating this.
Maybe we could learn from each other.

If there's interest, I'm thinking about hosting a Zoom call:
'Beyond the repost - how can we support the places and causes we care about when social media feels overwhelming?'
I’m thinking it could be an opportunity to share what's working for you - the small actions, the local engagement, the ways you're staying connected to causes you care about without the pressure of constant online performance.
I don't have a toolkit or answers. I have questions and the sense that many of us are trying to figure out how to care about big things while managing our actual lives.
Maybe we can figure it out together.
Hit reply if you'd be interested - no pressure to have wisdom to share, sometimes just listening and knowing you're not alone in the struggle is enough.
And if you are local to Dorking, then please come along to ‘Finding your footing in a wobbly world.’ on 25t October This show is basically group therapy, but with better rhymes and nobody making you share your feelings in a circle. I’ll take you from peak wobbliness – those moments when you can’t tell if you’re coming or going – to finding the stuff that actually stops you face-planting through life.
That’s it for now,
‘Til next time
