Bowling snowballs!
Alone
Aching heart.
Untold stories sit,
Looking for an outlet.
Tentatively, entering the room, watches
As people freely share their worries,
Mistakes made met in the messy middle
With sympathetic solidarity. Those who dare, baring bruises,
Begetting a blossoming bravery, starting with a stalling stutter.
Togetherness. One simple word begins the weaving of a world.
This poem is a snowball poem. How apt for this time of year here in the UK!
A snowball poem is a poem which grows by one word every line. One of the great things we can do with poetry is play. Forms like a snowball poem can be like the guide rails at on a bowling alley. You have these parameters to play within, to help guide you along.
I wrote this during a session of the Poetry Hub that I run in my town. I love setting this kind of poem as something to have a go at in a group, soon enough you see everyone begin to count on their fingers, checking that they have the right number of words in the line!
I like the way the first word of the first line is ‘alone’ and then the first word of the last line is ‘togetherness’.
And so, your prompt for today!
