Because poetry is about play...sometimes
Hello, new idea!
What if there was a place on my Substack to take a breather for a minute, listen to a poem and read about how it came about - would that be of any interest?
I love writing, recording and adding visually bits to my poems, so welcome to a little corner for us to play in! Would love to know what different styles appeal, and if you do this too, let me know and I’ll come take a look!
I’m starting off with a very gentle one which I recorded at the bottom of my local woods. I loved the idea of all the little insects and flowers and the abundant nature that is saying good morning to each other without any humans interfering.
It’s a little light poem, but it got shared by a celebrity on Instagram and it ended up getting about 20 times the rate of views my poems usually do, which shows you the power of endorsement! Sometimes I have words or phrases that just pop into my head and it happened with this poem with the repetition of the words ‘Good morning.’ It’s something that we so often say without thinking, but I like this idea of pausing and expanding that moment of saying ‘good morning’ with this poem, which feels just so soothing!
Here's the poem:
Good morning said the flowers.
Good morning said the bees.
Good morning said the sunshine.
Good morning said the breeze.
Good morning cried the dew as it kissed grass.
Good morning cried the dragon fly as it skitted past.
Good morning cried the willow as it shook its leaves.
Good morning cried the starling as it poked out from the eaves.
Good morning vibrant nature.
You make me feel such ease.
